New products are arriving almost every day! On Monday a shipment arrived from STAMPS BY JUDITH which includes a lot of stamps for the holidays that we haven't had before. There's a terrific large birdhouse, pine cones, stacks of presents, holiday sentiments in an Olde English script, lots of pegs both small and large, and many more. Another two boxes came in from one of our regular embellishments providers and I have no idea what was in there!

Thanks to everybody who came to our Puttin' on the Glitz event last Saturday. What a fun day! Lots of make and takes, one take and make, good food (thanks to all the bakers!), and great sales on anything that sparkled, glimmered, and glitzed. We've left the wrapped packages around the store for inspiration and the bulletin board is filled with ideas for using embellishments to decorate your home, cards, and gifts this season. This week at Your Maine Stamper

This week and next Lydia is featuring Halloween items--stamps, papers, embellishments. This is her favorite holiday! Check out the displays and the scrapbooking ideas using the Graphic 45 Wizard of Oz papers. Peggy's books and boxes are there and you won't believe how wonderful they are! Great ideas for decorating treat bags, too. We have lots of treat bags--clear, white, and kraft--along with orange and black ribbons as well as lots of stickers for embellishing the bags. If you are already planning ahead for Christmas, these bags also are an easy way to wrap your holiday gifts!

I put out more new papers on Saturday for the Christmas collection--glitter papers, foil decorated papers in silver and gold, angel papers, and two vintage Christmas images ones. There are also new snowman buttons, a variety of stickers, metal frames, paper flowers, and other goodies for your holiday cards and packages.

Free Make and Take Mask on Saturday @ the Halloween Bash!

Anne (that's me) is offering a free make and take mask on Saturday morning at the Your Maine Stamper Halloween Bash! Starting as soon after 10 as I can get organized, we'll have until noon for mask-making. Here are the samples I made Wednesday morning. (I apologize for the yucky colors--something is definitely wrong with my camera! Anything pink is dark red, the yellows should be oranges, navy blue is black.)

Hope you can join in the fun! All images for the mask you make will be stamped in black ink on printed papers or cardstock and embossed clear. You may also choose to add more color with markers. I'll give you some hints for decorating them further once you get them home and some ideas for home decor for Halloween.

ANGEL PIN

Saturday, Oct. 15. 1:30 to 3:30 PM

Learn how to make a wire Angel Pin! Kit provided for pin (gold/silver/copper).

This class is suitable for all levels, but a bit of patience is required.

Jo will have some paper and ribbon, but you may bring your own if you wish or purchase some in the store the day of the class. Two sheets of good quality heavier weight 12X12 two-sided paper is needed.

This is a fun project, and these pins make great gifts!

Remember that YOUR MAINE STAMPER is closed for the Labor Day weekend on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Today, Thursday, would be a great day to stop in and pick up some new products! FYI: New hours starting in September

YOUR MAINE STAMPER will be closed on Mondays starting Labor Day in September. We will continue to be open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM. We will continue to offer classes on weekdays and Saturdays as well as special events from time to time during business hours.

Periodically Anne will offer Monday afternoon classes 1-3 PM and the shop will be open to class participants only.

A SPECIAL NOTE TO CONNIE LOCASHIO!!!

After working on Mondays for fourteen years, Connie has retired from Your Maine Stamper. We really appreciate everything she has done during her time at YMS. Connie has been the driving force behind the annual It's Raining Cats and Dogs Event, a fundraiser and donations collection for the Kennebec Valley Humane Society. She has been an integral member of the YMS team in planning and manning monthly events, organizing products and displays, unpacking and pricing and finding places for new merchandise, even changing the lettering on the parking lot sign. She has maintained meticulous records on numerous spreadsheets that have helped us to document the history of the store and track store trends. During her tenure at YMS, Connie has also taken numerous classes in order to broaden and deepen her own stamping and paper crafting talents and thereby help customers to meet their needs. I am certain that we will continue to see Connie in classes and at events. When you see Connie, be sure to wish her well and thank her for her work at Your Maine Stamper. You could even send her a card to the store address and I'll make sure she gets it! THANK YOU, CONNIE!!!

Thank You to everyone who shopped at our Crafters Yard Sale on Saturday! There were lots of laughs, great lemonade and homemade cookies from some neighborhood kids (and their parents), and it didn't rain! What could be better!!! There was a lot of trading going on among the 12 vendors as well. And the store was busy, especially with shoppers who'd never been in before as well as our "regulars". What a fun day!!!

Please note our early starting time on Saturday--9AM! Come early and bring cash or checks for the yard sale outside. All of the vendors are local crafters looking to sell items they no longer use or wish to keep. There's tons of really cool stuff up for grabs!

This week's tutorial: Using Memory Box Dies

My class on Monday the 15th at Your Maine Stamper will feature a number of the new dies from Memory Box. We'll be using the Cuttlebug to create our own die cuts using these beautiful steel dies.

Each Cuttlebug seems to be calibrated a bit differently. I found on mine that the best "sandwich" starts with an A plate, then a C plate on top of that, the die raised side up next, the paper to be cut face down on the die, and a B plate on top of that. If you don't use the A plate--and you may not be able to if your machine balks at the height of your sandwich, you will need to add some extra cardstock layers to shim the C-die-paper-B sandwich in order to get a deep enough cut in the paper so that the image pops out easily.

These are some of the card kits that people in class will complete using these dies before cutting their own:

Even though these die cuts look detailed and delicate, they cut out beautifully on cardstock and are quite durable.

And here are two cards I made using the Snowflake Border/Frostyville Border re-imagined as flowers!

There are also dies that coordinate with stamps and there's a whole different set of techniques for using those which I will write about in a future post.

There are a number of websites that feature instructions and videos for working with the Memory Box dies. Just Google "Memory Box dies how-to".

This fall card features two of the newest memory Box stamps: G1781 Index Card and G1795 Autumn Leaf Collage. This is a quick and easy card!

Stamp G1781 Index Card on white or cream cardstock in Vintage Sepia ink.

Stamp G1795 Autumn Leaf Collage on top of the Index Card Image in the same color ink.

Trim the image and adhere to brown cardstock just a bit larger than the Index Card.

Layer this onto a piece of paper from the Nightfall 6X6 collection.

Stamp Happy Fall on a scrap of plain cardstock, adhere to a pice of brown to frame it, and pop-dot it on.

Add a little color to the leaves using a variety of colored pencils in shades of brown.

Happy stamping!

p.s. I'm getting excited about the yard sale next weekend. I made up $1 bags today from my stash of papers, chipboard, stickers, embellishments and more! And I've got about a hundred stamps at $1 each or less. Connie's been bagging up stuff from months and Diane's 300 or so stamps arrived via UPS so there are going to be lots of things to choose from! Here's this week's tutorial: A Chipboard Home Decor Piece

I had a large white chipboard letter A that I used for this project. I've seen lots of white chipboard shapes at the craft stores that would work for this technique, too. Or you could cut out your own letter from a cereal box or scrap thin cardboard.

Begin by tracing the outline of your chipboard shape onto a piece of 12X12 paper. I used the Fennel paper from last summer's Memory Box Jubilee collection. Cut out the paper shape and adhere it to the chipboard piece. I used a double-sided tape runner. You may find that you will need to trim things up with an Exacto knife or sand the edges of the papered shape.

Stamp some images that you like that compliment the paper you've chosen. I used Archival Jet Black ink and these Memory Box stamps: D1325 Leafy Shoot, G1718 Orchid Branch Print, A1743 Spiral Flower, and C1714 Cocoa Bean Butterfly. I stamped each image on Jubilee paper scraps from the 6X6 collection and added touches of pink and green chalks to highlight the flowers. Once I cut them out I attached them to the papered shape, putting some on flat and using pop-dots on some for more dimension. I also added daffodil yellow pearls to the Leafy Shoot Spiral Flower images and Frost pale blue ones to the orchids. A row of black pearls emphasize the body of the Cocoa Bean Butterfly.

That's it! I didn't do anything to the back. I have mine propped on a shelf above my desk. You might even make a collection of embellished letters to spell out FAMILY or FRIENDS. Or glam up a shape for a specific holiday and use it in your decorations. I'm sure you'll think of even more ways to adapt this idea for your own projects!

Notecard: Sweet Corn

Cardstock: Parchment

6X6 BLACKBIRD or NIGHTFALL papers

PROCEDURE

Stamp G1804 Harvest Moon on Parchment cardstock with Versafine Vintage Sepia ink. Trim image and mount on 6X6 paper; trim. Adhere to top left of Sweet Corn notecard.
Stamp the lower portion of G1795 Autumn Leaf Collage on Parchment cardstock with Versafine Vintage Sepia ink. Trim image and mount on 6X6 paper. trim. Adhere to lower right of Sweet Corn notecard.
Stamp F1776 Fall Leaf Trio on Parchment cardstock with Versafine Vintage Sepia ink. Trim.
Use the Pebbles Cream Chalks in the brown, gold, and copper tones to color the leaves and the moon.
Use a glue dot to secure the stems of the Fall Leaf Trio lined up over the stem that is stamped on the "autumn" piece. Use pop dots on the leaves for more dimension. (In the photo above, you can see the neat shadow that is a result of popping the leaves and placing the card in the sun.)

We are featuring our own Courtney Ricker's stamps during the month of June at Your Maine Stamper! We are so fortunate to have such a talented artist designing stamps exclusive to Your Maine Stamper. You cannot buy her stamps anywhere else! We got a HUGE box of her stamps in today. Lydia and Rod spent the morning unpacking, pricing, and placing the newest stamps on the Courtney Shelves.

THREE of Courtney's stamps are being featured as Stamps-of-the-Month: the Calendar Grid, the Three Hearts Quilt, and the Large Rectangular Frame. A couple of weeks ago Connie and I went through all of the stamps in the shop catalog and made sure to order enough so that we have two each of almost every design in the shop now. That's a LOT of stamps!!! If you haven't looked at Courtney's stamps in awhile, you may find some on the shelves that you've never seen as well as the shop favorites!

It's not too early to start thinking about making calendars for 2012 using the Calendar Grid stamp. Just stamp the image twelve times, add in the numbers (handwritten or stamped) for the dates each month and stamp an image that fits each month in the large blank area at the top of the grid. Mount each one on some seasonally appropriate paper and you've got a neat gift handmade by you!

The Three Hearts Quilt is a lovely backdrop for adding multiple images and sentiments and even cropped photographs to create a card for any occasion. It's the perfect thing to welcome a new baby, celebrate a wedding, acknowledge an anniversary, mark a birthday, or to send a thinking of you note.

I love using the Large Rectangular Frame to highlight and frame another stamped image or a cropped photograph. This might be just the stamp you need for an altered book project, a recipe collection, or to use a gift coupons or to frame a gift card.

It's so much fun to work with Courtney's largest stamps--there are so many other stamped images you can add to them and lots of ways to glam them up. I'll be teaching a class next Monday afternoon using several of Courtney's stamps... It's in the Bag (featuring the large brown paper bag stamp), Too Much on My Plate (featuring the Dresden Plate stamp), and A Tisket, A Tasket...(featuring the large Handled Woven Basket). I'm thinking we may also make a Maine Boot or two.

If you need ideas for using Courtney's stamps, check out the expanded catalog that Rod created which includes many many colored samples made by Courtney. There are also many of the templates she designed available for purchase and some samples of those on the black shelving units.

Stitched Mulberry Papers! Purple Hydrangea Cards from Memory Box

This is the new paper from PRIMA called Rosebuds. It is a thicker Mulberry paper that almost feels like cloth. It has a lot more cottony feel than most papers and it is quite thick and durable. I've cut some of my sheets into fourths--the trick is to have a sharp blade in the paper cutter and a pair of sharp scissors nearby to snip any of the stitched threads that the cutter misses. This is really lovely paper! I love the look of stitching on printed papers but I'm not about to drag out the sewing machine to do this myself when there is beautiful paper like this at hand. It is a bit more expensive than other 12X12s and worth every penny! This particular pattern would be sweet on a wedding card or to welcome a new baby or to celebrate a special birthday or anniversary. It is also lovely paper for scrapbook pages with just enough space to add a photo and some journaling and still show off the lovely stitching. I hope we get more of these papers in other patterns. They are stunning!!!

The card-color-of-the-month is in from Memory Box! It is a luscious purple called Hydrangea. We have a couple more of the Gorgeous Bloom stamps that arrived with this order and the Happy B-Day stamp with the little bee on the side. There is still a nice selection of the Memory Box dot papers and more of the shabby lime dot paper was in the bottom of the box.

Can't believe that tomorrow is the first of June! Memorial Day for me always marks the start of summer now, even though it doesn't officially arrive until the 21st. When I was working in a school until the end of June it was always the Fourth of July that marked the start of summer for me. We're gearing up at Your Maine Stamper for a fun-filled summer!!!

We have shelves and shelves of her stamps and more on order that we've run out of. Some of these you may not have seen in awhile or ever--we're restocking at least two of each of the most popular designs. There's a beautiful new PRIMA 12X12 from their Oh Sew Cute line--a page that is actually stitched and it's really amazing! I wish you could see the detail better in this picture. It's a little more expensive than some of our other 12X12s but it's worth every penny. I might actually have to make a scrapbook page with it! Bits of it would also be stunning on cards, particularly in combination with the Memory Box Gorgeous Bloom stamps.

I read a review this week about Tim's Tissue Tapes. They are really thin like tissue paper so they are fairly transparent over whatever you put them on. Even though they are adhesive-backed, you may find that you need to add a little more adhesive to them to get the tapes to stick and stay stuck. They are really cool and add a nice vintage touch to cards, scrapbook pages, altered books, etc. We just got "Sketchbook" in and we have one package of "Nostalgic" left. Tapes are really fun to play with!!!

A big box came today via UPS from Stamps by Judith!!! Lots of new stamps on the shelves!!! That's all I can remember at the moment...and I know there are more stamps than just these!!!

The shop is filled to the brim with crafting embellishments and tools--we're running out of hooks for displaying things! The newest papers are here from Memory Box--the Valise line in 12X12s and 6X6s. There is also a good selection right now of 25-card packs as well as 10 cards/envelopes packs and some shimmery packs of notecards with packs of matching envelopes. There are just a few of the new dies left--you will LOVE them! We also have the template for making liners for your envelopes to coordinate with your handmade cards. There's also a good selection of Memory Box pearls and jewels to glam up your creations!

THE GLUE GLIDER PRO IS HERE!!!

I am really excited to let you know that the Glue Glider Pro from Glue Arts has arrived at Your Maine Stamper!!! Lydia ordered twelve of them and 24 of the refill cartridges when we went to the trade show in March. This is the BEST tape gun ever!

I went online and found a review by Ellen Hutson that compares the Glue Glider Pro and the ATG. These are her thoughts: As you all know I really like to research a product before I determine whether or not I will carry it in our store. It was at CHA that I discovered this awesome little glue applicator. I don't know if this has been all the rage, but I know that I just discovered it and knew I had to share it with you.

As you well know I'm not so much about the "cute" factor - LOL! For me it is finding out if the product works as professed. What are the Pros and Cons? So here's the skinny from Ellen's vantage point.

Size Comparison:

Glue Glider Pro - 5 ounces and 6 3/4" x 5 5/8" x 1 1/8"

ATG Gun - 13 1/2 ounces and 9 1/2" x 9" x 1 3/4"

For those of you who are young and strong the ATG Gun is not a problem, but for those who have arthritis setting in, or fully set in, I believe that the Glue Glider Pro is the answer to your adhesive needs! It is not cumbersome or awkward. With the ATG gun there is a little trigger that needs to be pulled in order to activate the release of the adhesive. Another advantage with the Glue Glider Pro is that you simply pull - no double action trigger activation required!

Storage and Travel: One of the things that I must be extremely careful with is how I store and travel with my ATG gun being the adhesive is out there fully exposed. It has been on numerous occasions that I have had my gun stick to different items in my storage drawer or in my tote. Glue Arts has an innovative solution for this problem. Quickly pull the adhesive cartridge out and flip it around storing the exposed adhesive on the inside of the applicator as shown above.

The next part of my test was determing how easily the adhesive applied. As you can see I have tried to title the two parts of this project defining which applicator I used. One of the disadvantages to the ATG gun has always been the "start and stop" of my adhesive application. As you can see many times there are "strings" that extend beyond where I actually want my adhesive to be applied. I would have to pull this extra adhesive off. Sometimes I would remove too much of the adhesive and have to reapply it.

Once again Glue Glider Pro has come up with an innovative solution. They have die cut the adhesive every 1/16" to allow you to apply a small amount of adhesive with a defined cut point. This applicator does still allow you to use a continuous line, but as you will see I don't think that you will find this necessary.

Now it was time for the mother of all tests - the TRUE TEST! How would it stick?!?

Cathy is my witness to this test. After applying the adhesives I closed my card and pressed my hand smoothly and evenly over the entire surface. I let is sit for a minute and then I opened it up.

SHUT UP!!!! OMWord - never in my life would I have thought there was an adhesive that holds better than the ATG Red. I have tried the ATG Gold tape (this is the acid-free variety), but it was WAY too stringy for me, it drove me crazy and didn't stick as well. So I switched to the ATG Red tape. Well look at the result! WOW, WOW, WOW! I couldn't believe. I felt that my trusty red ATG tape had let me down, so I tried again because I know it sticks, it really does!

This time I pressed hard on the ATG adhesive and left it sit longer - thank goodness - it does work. I knew it had too, I have been in love with it for far too long to not have it work. I remember the days of using Snail Adhesive or Mono Adhesive and having my cards fall apart right before my eyes. So when I tried the ATG adhesive I was absolutely thrilled with the "hold" it had. I still am thrilled with it and so this test totally blew me out of the water.

So are there any Cons - well yes, there are. First is the environmentally friendly aspect. Rather than just having a roll of paper to dispose of upon completion there is the plastic cartridge. Unfortunately so many struggle with installation of the tape in the ATG gun and the slightly awkward application that I determined that currently there is a need for this type of applicator. I truly hope that Glue Arts will continue to work on the cartridges to reduce the amount of waste when the adhesive has run out, in fact I will urge them to do so.

Second is cost. WE HAVE PRICED THE GLUE GLIDER PRO AT $15 @ YOUR MAINE STAMPER. Once you purchase your ATG dispenser, your initial cost is somewhere in the $50-$75 range, the adhesive is inexpensive. I believe it is somewhere around $.12/yd. and if you are a shopper of all shoppers you can probably find it for less.

So next I did an internet search to find the costs of the Glue Glider PermaTac refills. With that search I found a range of prices beginning around $.52/yd up to $.68/yd. AT YOUR MAINE STAMPER REFILLS ARE 40 FEET IN LENGTH AND WILL RETAIL FOR $9.90. THAT'S ABOUT $ .68 PER YARD without including the cost of the 350 mini adhesive squares that are included in each refill package.

I think you are going to LOVE LOVE LOVE this product!!! I've put mine on hold for me, along with two refills, until I can get there Saturday to pick it up. I can't wait!!!

Signify Pink at Your Maine Stamper! Stamps by Judith coming soon!

Signify Pink @ Your Maine Stamper

When we (Lydia, Connie, Anne) visited the trade show in MA in March, we met with representatives from a company new to us--Signify Pink. This midwestern company focuses on items related to breast cancer awareness and fundraising to fight breast cancer. Their primary slogan is "Fight like a Girl!" We ordered paper, stickers, and really cute big brads. Lydia also ordered stamps and papers and embellishments from other companies. When Connie and I (Anne) put it all together in one place on Saturday we found that it makes a great display! There are some terrific items here if you are making cards or a scrapbook for someone who has or has had breast cancer or if you are looking for something different for luminaries for a Relay for Life event this spring/summer.

You know how Connie and I get when we're together at the store for any length of time--expect there to be changes in terms of where things are and how they are displayed! We had to do quite a lot of rearranging on Saturday in order to make room for STAMPS BY JUDITH!!!

The stamps aren't here yet, but they will be arriving SOON...and this cabinet will be their home! Just as we've kept all of the Memory Box stamps together in one area, Stamps by Judith will also have a space dedicated to their stamps, sample cards, and color catalogs (catalogs will be for sale; great ideas inside). The Scoop on the La Blanche Stamps--NEW @ Your Maine Stamper

We have a new line of stamps at Your Maine Stamper from the German company La Blanche. These are high quality stamps that offer easy stamping with minimal pressure. Their highly detailed images reproduce beautifully! The unique design of these stamps is that the top of the stamp, the part you hold, is extremely lightweight foam and the stamp itself is heat-resistant silicone. And the price is right!!!--much less than a wood-mounted stamp of the same size!
